Overall, getting fit at home doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. With a few simple steps and dedication, you can reach your fitness goals in no time!
Things to Consider
Some considerations are how much space do you need for your gym? Body weight exercises, resistance bands, and dumbbells require little space. Some people even store items under a bed or put them in a closet to keep them out of the way. Same with a yoga mat. Don’t let a lack of space hinder you from getting in shape.
What are your goals, are you looking to lose weight, build muscle, or improve your physical appearance? Do you plan on doing yoga, cardio, or a strength training routine? All these things are something to consider before starting and building your plans. Your ideal outcome is to make exercise a habit
Decide on what you need to do is make time and find a space for your workouts. Try to devote about 30 minutes to your workout. You want to elevate your heart rate to receive a cardio benefit, even with resistance training.
Once you decide on the time of day, and which days of the week you will work out. The next step is to make a workout plan. Your plan should make a list of all the workout details, like what exercises you will do on which days. It is important to exercise for both health and mental well-being. Here are a few things to do before you start any workout.
Take at least five minutes of warm-up for each workout. Depending on your goals it is always recommended to do stretching to warm up the areas you are going to be engaging during the actual exercise.
There are two paths you can go down.
- You can do an aerobic workout targeting your desired muscle group. The goal is to raise your heartbeat in your target zone (cardio). Which is based on your sex, age, and current health. Here is a link to a chart at Heart.org that shows what your target heart rate is.
- Or, you can choose to do strength training. You can get an aerobic workout with weights or resistance bands. Depending on the speed and intensity of the workout. The main goal is to work muscles and build them up over time.
- Muscle continues to burn fat even in between workouts. Another benefit is having a better-defined physique. Which most people prefer, as opposed to losing weight and still looking out of shape.
- Either path the goal is to elevate your heart rate for an extended period of time to achieve heart health, weight loss, and improve muscle mass. Contrary to what some people believe, women can lift weights without growing big muscles. It comes down to a difference in gender.
- The best way to get fit is to do both, which is what I do. I alternate between a strength training day and a cardio day. On the day I do strength training I will work on my upper body and on the next strength day I will work on my lower body. On the cardio day, I will run or do the elliptical for a 30-minute routine. By the end of the week, I put in a full workout working my whole body.

Get Strong – Resistance Bands and Weights
It seems like fitness enthusiasts use heavy-lifting equipment to build muscle mass. Although many individuals prefer training on heavier weights the notion that they should be considered essential isn’t true.
Instead, in-home fitness programs can be performed with body weights and resistance bands for strength, dumbbells, or kettlebells for muscle building. This can easily be achieved by using the proper equipment in the house, without the need for a heavyweight. Resistance is a force exerted on the muscle, the stress on the muscle slightly damages the muscle tissue. During rest and recovery time the muscles build up and make them bigger depending on the amount of work on the muscle.
Improving Cardiovascular Fitness
Many people avoid exercise at home for fear of losing heart rate. The truth is, a vigorous cardiovascular workout is achievable without spending money on gym memberships or a treadmill or bicycle. A very good approach for cardiovascular fitness involves intense interval training.
HIIT (high-intensity interval training) is a structured workout strategy that mixes intense workouts with low-intensity recovery periods. It’s proven to increase endurance, help improve heart and lung function, and also burn calories after exercise.
Workout Apps
Workout apps are becoming increasingly popular with those who want to stay fit and active. There are a variety of fitness apps available for mobile devices, including general exercise tracking, lifestyle recommendations, run tracking, and diet tracking.
They are a great way to help users measure their progress over time, set goals, track calories burned and monitor their heart rate. Fitness apps can provide personalized advice on exercise routines that suit individual needs and can help users learn more about how nutrition affects their overall health.
Some of the top fitness apps include Nike Training Club (NTC), Fitbit Coach, and MyFitnessPal. NTC offers free customized training programs tailored to the user’s goals and skill level. It also includes audio guidance from professional athletes to take the guesswork out of workouts.
Meanwhile, Fitbit Coach provides personalized workout plans for all fitness levels with audio or video coaching to ensure you get the most out of your workouts. And MyFitnessPal is a comprehensive app that helps keep track of calorie intake, log exercises, and reach your goals in an intuitive way.
By using these fitness apps, users can gain insight into their daily activity levels, learn healthier habits and work towards reaching specific goals more effectively than ever before.
